The match is on GolTV at 3pm eastern, and should be available at rojadirecta.com as well. ENDAVANT!
Lineup was almost right: Lopez; Venta, Marcano, Godin, Capdevila; Cani, Senna, Eguren, Cazorla; Rossi, Llorente.
8′ 1-0. Unstoppable free kick off the inside of the post by Deportivo, and Villarreal find themselves down a goal at 8 minutes. Not sure if anyone could have topped that, but admittedly the wall separated a bit on the jump. Eguren set it up with a foul after getting beat on a cutback by Deportivo’s leftback.
13′ I am about to turn the match on silent. Hudson and Schoen have no idea what they are talking about.
17′ Goalscorer Duca is substituted off because of injury.
20′ Marcano tripped into the Deportivo player and picked up a yellow.
21′ Godin comes down hard and looks like he might be seriously injured. We don’t have a backup central defender, so if he is hurt, it will probably have to be Eguren sliding back with Bruno coming in form him. He seems to be walking it off, though.
28′ Sparkling moves by Capdevila to get it out of trouble in the corner.
34′ Godin is out, meaning Bruno is in Eguren’s spot, and Eguren is in central defense. Valverde’s decision making suddenly seems even more suspect. What’s crazy (and scary) is that it looks like Godin left because of his right ankle, which is not the original ankle he hurt.
37′ I agree with you Kqql. Cani looks lost out there. Perhaps Cazorla should be pushed right and Cani moved back to the left?
39′ Should be 2-0, as Deportivo worked it all the way down the field to a one-on-one with Diego Lopez, and then dinked a slow roller into Diego’s arms.
42′ Yellow for Cani. Villarreal are getting frustrated, and Deportivo are taking advantage with some cheap dives.
44′ Cani needs to come off at the half. He is doing nothing unless he is screwing something up.
HT: 1-0. Nothing inspiring from Villarreal yet. And Phil Schoen keeps saying we played well against Bilbao. He is an idiot.
47′ Llorente’s header looked like it should have been counted as a goal. It was close on the shot, not sure if it crossed the line or not. Good start from Villarreal.
61′ Yellow for Lopo as he chops down Nilmar on the break.
50′ Great work from Cazorla to set up his own shot, which was well taken but well saved.
52′ More good work from Cazorla to lead to his own shot, after some excellent buildup. We are four or five minutes from a goal.
53′ Senna with a nice dipping shot, leading to a GK fumble, pushed out for a corner.
56′ Rossi gets fed up and starts taking apart the stadium, bit by bit. Nilmar comes in for Llorente, who played well. Not sure if he should have come out there.
57′ Senna with a questionable decision to take a shot from distance, but at least we are going after the goal. Our momentum has ebbed a bit, though.
59′ Rossi with a hard shot off the turn, but it goes across the face and no one is there to push it in.
66′ Capdevila was in perfect position to keep the match 1-0. Although he didn’t get to the ball, he kept the Deportivo striker from reaching it.
68′ We have no height in front of goal which is hurting us.
72′ Huge save by Lopez.
73′ Pires in for Cani. Should have happened a while ago.
75′ Indirect kick for Villarreal from inside the box as the keeper held the ball too long in the box. Strange.
76′ Yellow for Pires for who knows what as he hesitates from kicking the ball because Guardado was jumping off the wall. Indirect kick leads to a corner that leads nowhere. This is getting way too late in the match.
81′ I think part of our problem might be the horrible body language of Valverde. How could our players possibly take confidence from him when he constantly looks like his dog just died?
83′ Our offense has gone silent since Llorente went out. Bad decision by Valverde.
86′ Absolutely amazing foot save from Lopez on a one-on-one break by Deportivo.
90′ This one looks to be over…three minutes of stoppage time.
90′+ Genius Phil is putting Deportivo in the Champions League. Well, they were better than us today. Match over.
Is it time for Ernesto Valverde to be shown the door? I think it might be. My concern is that the Villarreal board, being the small club that they are, might not have the finances or the guts to make the change this early. This is getting embarrassing, though. This team should not be sitting with three losses and two draws after five matches. Something has to change, and it must happen now.

Hey someone needs to remind cani he’s in the game
Ball is either in defense or Senna or with Rossi/Lorrente ..
Where is the midfield?
Godin needs to be subbed…he’s hurt
Bruno in for Injured Godin
bad passing…giving up balls…………..
THIS IS Villarreal????????????????????????
Honestly Put Pires in for Cani……………………………
Guardado and Filipe Luis are ripping that left flank apart
wow……………..that should have been 2-0……………..
midfiled is rushing the ball to forwards and making crappy passes……….
great 1-2 between cazorla and venta….and cani passes the ball to deportivo.
ht 1-1
Please apply …need a new coach…
HT: 1-0. Nothing inspiring from Villarreal yet. And Phil Schoen keeps saying we played well against Bilbao. He is an idiot
lol
In Liga Villarreal have played well only vs Mallorcra and Real Madrid after 34″……
ht 1-1 Wishful thinking.
Sod’s law that Godin is the one to get injured with no cover on the bench.
Why don’t Cani and Cazorla switch side occasionally?
Much better start. Great skill from Santi there
Ok at the minute it’s Santi versus Depor
Deportivo is playing for 1-0
Nilmar in for Llorente…
I would brought in pires for cani
We’re lucky that they don’t have a striker! Guardado is top class
25 minutes later we get pires… for cani
Ohoho, must score from this!
Spanish commentators making fun of Pires!
10 minutes to save private valverde?
1-0…
Villarreal need a new manager,,,
Valverde facial expressions are not good for team morale..
Villarreal played too many long balls
I think the problem is the manager………….
he and the players are not clicking.
This team finish 2nd in 08 and 5th in 09…..
it’s not a #19 team……………no way………
It’s him
I have to say Valverde has made some strange decisions but it’s far to early to be talking of changing managers.
It’s not that we played badly against Deportivo. We created numerous chances but did not find the net. What we’re lacking is the killer pass to create a simple goal but at the moment they can’t relax to be able to do this.

woah. i miss this week’s 2 games and everyone is ready to jump off the ledge. good thing i’m sticking with the B team beat.
maybe it’s time to truly bring youth into the squad. what was kiko doing on the B team this week, for example? he should’ve been the third central defender; who cares at what cost to them staying in segunda A. montero is ready for the big show. marco ruben has scored every week (the A team only has 4 goals total on the year; ruben has 5 himself). bruno should be on the B team playing regular minutes rather than this silly spot cover role. matilla might be more ready for A team action than he is.
obviously changing teams won’t solve all our problems, but i feel like the spark and enthusiasm is completely missing from the A team. they need to remember why futbol is a fun game again. as you said, valverde is very dour and serious. at least we have the europa league? big game on thursday.
and maddi, it’s much too early to talk of changing managers. don’t turn us into atletico, please. valverde’s preseason results were wonderful, don’t forget.
our strikers lack the killer touch and we don’t have height up front. same problems as always, and it makes losing streaks that much worse because we aren’t able to “fluke” a goal a la peter crouch. we’ll just have to play out of it, but we are short of ideas. cani is back to what he was until last season’s mirage (an overpaid bust of a transfer), pires isn’t playing much (coming off an incredible season), eguren seemingly has no creativity in villarreal (unlike with uruguay), senna and ibagaza are old and injured, and bruno/escudero/fuster are completely unknown quantities. so it’s all on santi, poor guy. frankly our best forward has been jony, but right now he couldn’t score into an open goal.
i’m not watching either the real madrid or depor games, and i think i’ll be the happier for it. on to salzburg.
Sidrath watch the real madrid game.///// that way a good display…

VILLARREAL CLAIM UNWANTED RECORD
Villarreal have made the worst start to a season in their history after falling to an undeserved defeat at Deportivo la Coruna
http://www.sportinglife.com/football/overseas/spain/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=soccer/09/09/27/SOCCER_Deportivo_la_Coruna_Nightlead.html
this is sad. valverde style is not working with players villareal has and the valve of each player and the club is going down
La Liga Loca offers some optimism.
Now this is getting beyond a joke.
A defeat to Deportivo means that Villarreal are only one point better than Xerez. And one point worse than Atlético Madrid.
La Liga Loca is not sure which is more embarrassing for the Yellow Submarine.
But despite this being Villarreal’s worst ever top-flight start, the blog feels confident that Ernesto Valverde will sort his side out, sooner rather than later.
Some interesting points by JLL in his article today.
Particularly the following.
“Valverde fails to instill his idea. His players hear him but do not listen. The coach insists on the use of the wings, as an example the place marked by chalk to the left edge of Santi Cazorla, to the right of Cani. Five years of Pellegrinismo aren’t easily forgotten and they stick in the subconscious, even more so when the results do not come and the doubts grow.”
The problem is that Santi and Cani are not wingers.

pellegrinismo was a success, so why change?
velverdosmo is not working.
lets say valverde is shown the door..who is going to replace him?
