The 4-4-1-1 just doesn’t seem to be doing much in terms of creation. Things are being forced through the middle or done with miss-aimed long balls. Villarreal have recovered a bit from the first 12 minutes, but still are not really doing much worthwhile.

One thing I will say is that we are putting more pressure on the ball higher up when we lose possession, which slows Sevilla down and creates opportunities for a quick turnaround.
29′ ROBERT PIRES!!!!! Villarreal have a few minutes of great play, and it finishes with a one-two with Eguren leading to a beautiful volley from Pires to beat Palop. 1-1.

This is the first half I have seen Valverde style finally in full display………..so far so good……………….
Looks like Pires, Cani, Eguren, Bruno, Rossi, Marcano, Godin have finally figured out what Valverde wants from them.

We had a nervy start but since a few minutes after the goal we have been dominant. Bruno, Fuster and Eguren have got to grips around the middle and anytime we get it out left we look dangerous. Very impressive so far.

Kqql, Bruno passed the ball from the wing to Pires, who then passed to another player – was difficult to tell whether it was Eguren, Fuster or Rossi (I think it was Eguren, announcer kept saying Rossi).
–Actually, I just rewound it and watched again in slow motion – it was Fuster. So everyone was wrong!

FUSTER!!!!! 2-1! Amazing!!! A long ball that Sevilla just misses gets through to Pires, who dribbles to the middle and his cross is knocked to the middle by Palop. Fuster punces on it, on dribble to his right, and then drills it backt o his left. Beautiful stuff!

Kqql – I believe that the illegal corners came from the right, as opposed to the one from the left on which the goal came from. The one the goal came from was a quick corner that I belive was legal.

tuesday this tired team plays again…..
FT: 3-2. It’s unfortunate, but could have been expected ahead of the match. Not that it decided the match (in my opinion), but Sevilla continued to show that they are willing to take any illegal advantage they can (I can’t help but picture Diego Capel artfully dying on the pitch 12-15 times per match when he starts). Villarreal seemed to relax too much following Fuster’s excellent goal. You could easily blame the defense, as the central defenders gave a lot of space to great headers of the ball, but we couldn’t keep any possession in midfield after our last goal. Everything got messy, and we just booted the ball up the field one time after another. It is definitely arguable that Valverde should have made a substitution of some sort immediately following the Fuster goal to help strengthen our form, and I think he definitely should have following Fabiano’s second goal. Injuries surely limited his options, though. An ideal move would have been to bring in Cazorla on a wing, perhaps for Pires, following Fuster’s goal to increase our possession in midfield. Or Senna on for Bruno. But, that was a problem he had going in. All in all, we played as well as we have in the Sanchez Pizjuan in a long time and we were missing a number of key players.
We deserved more out of that game, just switched off after we went 2-1 up and that cost us. Adriano made the difference for them. Still it was an encouraging performance, and there are some things we can build on. Fuster’s performance was a big plus as was Bruno’s. The two lads are slotting in well. Rossi I think can still give more even though it was tough for him tonight. Cani has to do better. Back four are improving but not at their best yet. I’d like to see Eguren sit a bit deeper and give them a wee bit more cover.
Rossi : although didn’t have much supply ….nor is a CF…..but I thought he did alright…he fought for every ball..and hopefully it’s good sign that his form is coming back… he forced the save/rebound that got the Fuster free shot goal
Cani -> an off game…too bad ..since this is kind of game he needs to show up for…………
Pires , what can I say……. a goal + played well for 70″ ..he tired out….
Fuster….Great game from him.. a goal and an assist…will give Ibagaza run for.

Valverder … he needed to sub out Cani @ 1-2 or 2-2 with Escudero and move Pires to right.
Timing of sub probably cost the game………………
Def 4-4-2 in diamond would have worked better if Llorente or Nilmar were avaiable……that would have put more pressure on Sevilla back line…….
I re saw the highlights, 3rd goal is illegal….ball was outside the Corner Kick area when taken ,,,,,,,,,,,def cheating
I would appeal………..why not its ref job to make sure the Corner is taken probably.
Why let the cheater get away w/it ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,too bad refs always favor big city teams
