We at VillarrealUSA thought that Sebastian Eguren was happily on his way to Lazio.  As did he.  As did Villarreal.  And, we think, as did Lazio.

But that might not be the case.  There are reports that he has failed a medical examination because of high blood pressure, and that he may be returning to eastern Spain where his situation would not work for anyone.  Lazio would be out a midfielder they need.  Villarreal would be with a midfielder that (unfortunately) they do not want.  Eguren would be looking at a severely diminished chance of finding his role into Uruguay’s World Cup squad for lack of playing time.

But Villarreal are denying that he is coming back.  So, as of right now, I do not know if anyone knows what is going to happen.  We’ll do our best to keep the situation updated here.

Match preview to come later tonight.

It seems like a strange reason to fail a medical, reminds me of what Milan did to Aly Sissokho (sp?) during the summer. He was all set to sign but Milan cancelled the deal on account of his teeth. They said that they didn’t pass the medical. This turned out to be rubbish and he signed for Lyon instead.
I wonder if Lazio have come across an alternative or have balked at some of our demands. They do need a new midfielder though as it looks like Ledesma is heading to Inter. I had half hoped we could engineer some sort of swap deal for him as he is exactly what we need.

On the topic of our strikers, just watched the highlights of Hull City’s 2-2 draw with fellow strugglers Wolves. Jozy made the first goal showing his pace and power then he displayed some cleverness in winning the penalty for the second. A good performance from him, looked very suited to the Premiership.

there’s rumors that Lazio would like to sign the Brazilian Ederson, but only has place for one non-EU player so it’s either back out of the deal for Eguren or pass on Ederson, who would cost much less.

Fernando Roig says that Eguren is a Lazio player having undergone a medical and signed a contract. He does not see him returning to Villarreal. It does appear that Lazio have other options and are now looking for an excuse to back out.

    This is so confusing.
